Keveli Music Seeks Consortium Members…

The Oregon State University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Chapman, and the Boston Brass are building a consortium to commission a new band work from composer Kevin Walczyk. The work, entitled Noite do Novo Nascimento, will be a rousing opener/closer composed for brass quintet and wind ensemble, featuring the exciting African-influenced folk elements of Brazilian music, including the Baiano, Baião, Ogum, and Forró. The work will feature the improvisational talents of Boston Brass members Jose Sibaja (trumpet), Chris Castellanos (horn), and Sam Pilafian (tuba). You can have the opportunity to invite the Boston Brass to your institution to perform this new work with your wind ensemble.

Keveli Music, who will publish the work, is looking for bands interested in becoming a member of the commissioning consortium and bringing Noite do Novo Nascimento to life. The commissioning fee is $500 per institution, which can be paid in full or in two equal installments of $250 (over 1 or 2 academic budget years). Consortium members are acknowledged in the publication in perpetuity, receive a complete set of performance materials, have a one-year window to perform the work before it is made available to non-consortium members, and partake in the creation of a new work for band and brass quintet, featuring the world renowned Boston Brass.

Noite do Novo Nascimento is scheduled for premiere on May 25, 2017 at Oregon State University featuring Boston Brass with the Oregon State University Wind Ensemble, Christopher Chapman, director. The work will become available to consortium members after July 1, 2017. The consortium will have exclusive performance rights during the 2017-18 academic year. Noite do Novo Nascimento will then become available to non-consortium members in Summer, 2018.
