The Colorado Christian University Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Mark Dorn, is building a consortium to commission a new band work from composer Kevin Walczyk. The proposed work will be a grade 4, hymn-based composition with a duration between 6-8 minutes. The hymns utilized will focus on Joshua 1:9 that contain prose from English evangelist, John Cennick. (Note: No lyrics/singing will be incorporated in the work). December 12, 2018 will mark the 300th anniversary of Cennick’s birth.
Keveli Music, who will publish the work, is looking for bands interested in becoming a member of the commissioning consortium and bringing this new work to life. The commissioning fee is $500 per institution, which can be paid in full or in two equal installments of $250 (over 1 or 2 academic budget years). Consortium members are acknowledged in the publication in perpetuity, receive a complete set of performance materials, have a one-year window to perform the work before it is made available to non-consortium members, and partake in the creation of a new work for band.
*Optional parts will be made available but will not be necessary for performance.
The work will be premiered by the Colorado Christian University Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Mark Dorn, at the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference in January 2019. The work will become available to consortium members immediately following the CMEA Conference performance. The consortium will have exclusive performance rights for the remainder of the 2019 calendar year. The work will then become available to non-consortium members in January, 2020.
